This thin crescent copper coin was produced to circulate in place of the thick crescent copper coin, which is heavier and worth the same price as the real coin. When King Mongkut (Rama IV) scattered the thick crescent coins, some of the recipients suffered head injuries or bruises. He considered that the copper coins
issued with the seal and the words 2 for a fuang, 4 for a fuang should be reliable. Even if they were made lighter and thinner, they would still be usable. Therefore, he graciously ordered the production of this thin type. The coin is round and flat with smooth edges. The obverse
features the Royal Crown with rays radiating and flanked by an umbrella on both sides. The background is a branch pattern, but not as detailed as the tribute coin of B.E. 2401 (1858) . The reverse features a standing elephant facing left in the center of the Chakra symbol. The edge has Thai letters indicating the price on top, Arabic numerals indicating the price on the left, Chinese letters on the bottom, on the right is the Roman letter "F" meaning "Fuang". Year of creation: Issued on March 29, 1866 , discontinued on May 17, 1909. Size: 29 mm.
