This bronze Ganesha statue, created in 2005 to commemorate the 50th birthday of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn (Phra Boromrajakumari), is numbered 778. It measures 2 inches across the lap, with a base width of 5.5 cm and a height of 8 cm . This is the first time in history that the royal monogram "Phra Boromrajakumari" (Phra Boromrajakumari) has been inscribed on a Ganesha pedestal. It was created based on a design by His Royal Highness Prince Narisara Nuwattiwong, the chief architect of Siam (younger brother of King Rama V). The statue was sculpted by National Artist-level artisans from the Faculty of Painting, Silpakorn University. The Faculty of Archaeology and the Alumni Association of the Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University, jointly created this "Ganesha Commemorative Statue" or "Phra Boromrajakumari Phra Boromrajakumari" to honor Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn's 50th birthday in 2005. This year marks His Majesty the King's 50th birthday and the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Faculty of Archaeology, Silpakorn University. For this creation of the Phra Pikanesuan (Ganesha) statue, His Holiness Somdej Phra Yannasangworn, the Supreme Patriarch, graciously provided the gold and other materials. In addition, gold from the casting of the first edition of the Phra Phuttha P.R. (Royal Buddha image) was also incorporated into the casting of the Phra Pikanesuan statue. The casting ceremony for the Phra Pikanesuan statue took place at 11:39 AM on September 21, 2005, which was Ganesha Puja Day of the year 2005, at the ceremonial grounds of Silpakorn University, Wang Tha Phra campus. His Holiness Somdej Phra Maha Thira-chan, Abbot of Wat Chanasongkhram Ratchaworamahavihara and Chief Abbot of the Central Region, presided over the religious ceremony, while Mr. Khanchai Bunpan, Chairman of Matichon Public Company Limited, presided over the lay ceremony. A solemn consecration ceremony was held in the temple of Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) at Wang Tha Phra, coinciding with Ganesh Chaturthi, the birthday of Lord Ganesha. Somdej Phra Maha Thira-chan of Wat Chana Songkhram presided over the ceremony. Four renowned monks sat in meditation and blessed the amulets in four directions : Luang Pho Prasit of Wat Sai Noi , Luang Pho Eiad of Wat Phai Lom , Luang Pho Poonsap of Wat Ang Sila , and Luang Pho Uayporn of Wat Don Yai Hom . Phra Ajarn Chainarong of Wat Lao served as the chief officiant. |
