Reign of King Rama 5

Reign of King Rama 5

Coins from the reign of King Rama V (Chulalongkorn, 1868–1910) marked a significant transition period in Thai numismatics, as the country modernized its currency from the traditional “pod duang” (bullet) money to flat, internationally-aligned coins. This era also saw the introduction of the reigning king’s portrait on the obverse of the coins for the first time.
