In Chinese culture the mythological phoenix is regarded as an immortal bird
whose rare appearance foreshadows armony at the ascent to the throne of a
new emperor. Representing virtue and grace, the phoenix is said to be
symbolic of yin and yang, and the image of this sacred bird is often seen at
weddings and royal events alongside a dragon.
In Feng Shui, the dragon and the phoenix are considered perfect matches for
one another. The phoenix is ‘yin’ while the dragon is ‘yang’ in the Chinese
philosophical account of natural balance and interdependence.
DESIGN
The reverse of the coin features a Chinese phoenix with clouds in the
background and a flower with the Chinese symbol for phoenix inscribed on it.
The coin’s obverse depicts the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen
Elizabeth II, the 2018 year-date, and the monetary denomination.
No more than 1,000 of the Phoenix 2018 2oz Silver Antique Coin will be
released.
PRESENTATION
Each coin is housed in a classic display case within an illustrated shipper and
accompanied by a numbered Certificate of Authenticity.
TECHNICAL NOTES
This coin has been individually ‘antiqued’ to give it a unique finish conveying
the surface abrasions of an ancient artefact. As a result of this treatment, the
appearance of each coin may vary.
