Description
The Royal Australian Mint has produced this silver 50 cent proof coin to commemorate the visit to Australia in March 2000 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. This is the first time since 1936 that an effigy designed by an Australian, features on Australian coinage. Vladimir Gottwald, one of the Royal Australian Mint's designers, has designed this effigy. The Australian flag flying above Parliament House alongside an image of St Edward's Crown, appears on the coin's reverse. The flag, which is the largest Commonwealth flag in the Southern Hemisphere, is supported by an 81-metre high towering mast.
