A complete set of uncirculated, still-sealed 50 satang circulating coins issued during the reign of King Rama IX. The set
includes the following coins: 50 satang coins from 1988 to 2017, and a 50 satang Kanchanaphisek coin from 2008. Both brass and copper versions are included. ***Note: Coins from 2012 and 2013 were not produced. *** The obverse features a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, and the reverse depicts the Wat Phra That Doi Suthep pagoda. First issued in 1987, the coins were made of aluminum bronze. In 1996, both regular and commemorative 50 satang coins were produced. For the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in 2009, the Royal Thai Mint announced a new series of circulating coins to reduce production costs and make counterfeiting more difficult. The 50 satang coin changed its metal type from aluminum bronze to copper-plated steel, resulting in a reddish color, while maintaining the same size and weight. The design also changed, featuring a more recent portrait of His Majesty, beginning with coins dated 2008 onwards. Coins from 2008 exist in both the old and new designs, with a diameter of 18 mm and a weight of 2.4 grams. |
