Description

Back with another of their innovative stackable silver bullion releases, Coin’s Today dives into the deep, and varied world of Indian mythology, more specifically, that of Hinduism. Revered as the remover of obstacles and the lord of wisdom and intellect, Lord Ganesha is easily recognizable with his elephant head and pot-belly, symbolizing wisdom, intelligence, and abundance.

The son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, he is often depicted with four arms, each holding a symbolic object such as a modak (sweet dumpling), an axe, a noose, or a lotus. His large ears signify his attentiveness to his devotees, and the broken tusk represents his sacrifice for knowledge. Ganesha’s worship is celebrated during festivals, especially Ganesh Chaturthi, where beautifully crafted idols are installed in homes and temples. Devotees offer prayers, sweets, and flowers to seek his blessings for success, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles.

We’ve seen Ganesha coins before, most notably from CIT as part of their ‘Spiritual Art’ series of high-end numismatics, so we know it can’t have been the easiest thing to turn into a stackable silver bullion piece, but going on these images, it seems that the South Korean producer has had little difficulty in doing so. Utilizing the popular, and good value two-ounce format, which allows the level of relief and detail necessary to pull off these designs, they’ve done another marvelous job bringing this extraordinary deity to life.

There’s detail aplenty, and lots of correct touches in the design (the broken tusk, for example), along with a background that continues with high levels of detail, rather than copping out with a smooth one. A look around the back and we can see a perfect negative imprint of Ganesha, that will happily accept the main face, cementing the item’s stackable status. It’s genuinely another top-tier piece of bullion, adding to what we consider the most eclectic, high-quality range of bullion on offer today.
