THE CYCLOPES WERE GIGANTIC, ONE-EYED BEINGS WITH ENORMOUS STRENGTH. THE MOST FAMOUS AMONG THEM WAS POLYPHEMUS, THE CYCLOPS WHO FELL IN LOVE WITH GALATEA AND WAS EVENTUALLY BLINDED BY ODYSSEUS.
THE WORD “CYCLOPS” CAN BE LITERALLY TRANSLATED AS “ROUND-EYED,” BUT MANY AUTHORS FEEL THAT IT IS DERIVED FROM A MUCH OLDER WORD THAT ORIGINALLY MEANT “SHEEP THIEF.”
This coin has a demonic design and contains an original portrayal of a Cyclops. The usage of the high relief technique reflects the tiniest detail. Besides, the coin is gilded with 24-karat gold.
THE REVERSE OF THE COIN DEPICTS THE CYCLOPS, HOLDING A GOLDEN MACE. THE OBVERSE FEATURES THE COAT OF ARMS OF CAMEROUN. THE COIN COMES IN A THEMED BOX, TOGETHER WITH THE CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY. THE MINTAGE IS LIMITED TO ONLY 500 PIECES WORLDWIDE.
