It was changed from the Royal Portrait Coin - "Coat of Arms", 1 baht denomination, year 1962.
By reducing the size and weight to prevent problems that may arise from confusion and to be consistent with the Garuda coin set, 5 baht denomination.
Which have similar sizes, which are the same size of 27 mm.
The front side features a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, facing left. The top edge bears the royal cypher "Bhumibol Adulyadej" and the right side reads "Rama IX". The
back side features a Garuda, with the text "Government of Thailand, 1974" written on top and the price "1 Baht" written on the bottom.
The coin is round with a beveled edge.
