Uncirculated 1 satang aluminum coin, year 2530 (1987).
Diameter 15 mm
, weight 0.5 grams.
Production quantity: 93,000 coins.
The 1 satang coin currently in circulation features a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the obverse and an image of the pagoda at Wat Phra That Hariphunchai on the reverse. First issued in 1987 , this 1 satang coin was not in general circulation but was only used within banks.
In 1996, the design of the 1 satang coin was changed to a commemorative coin for the Golden Jubilee of His Majesty the King, therefore, the regular 1 satang coin was no longer produced.
In 2009, the Treasury Department announced the use of a new series of circulating coins to adjust production costs and make them more difficult to counterfeit. The 1 satang coin had its composition adjusted from 97% aluminum to 99% aluminum, while the size and weight of the coin remained the same. The design was changed to a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej closer to his present age on the obverse [3] , which began to appear on coins dated 2008 onwards.
