Phra Phuttha Nawama Maharaja Yutchab Pariwatnamongkol, behind the royal initials B.P.R. (Phra Somdej, King Rama IX)
King Rama IX graciously bestowed the name of this project “Phra Phuttha Nawamaha Raja Yutchab Pariwatnamongkol”, meaning the Buddha image created on the auspicious occasion of the 60th birthday anniversary of King Rama IX, Office of the Prime Minister.
On the occasion of the 60th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the King in 1999, the Office of the Permanent Secretary to the Prime Minister has created sacred objects of Buddha images and a replica of the royal statue of His Majesty the King.
This construction therefore consists of the following principles:
1. Correctness of ancient ceremonies
2. The completeness of the materials, gold, and metal used to create the Buddha images in the project.
3. Beautiful design
According to these principles, the construction committee has determined that there will be 3 ceremonies in total in order to be correct, complete and sacred according to the ancient texts which have been passed down since the Ayutthaya period in the time of Somdej Phra Phanarat, the teacher of Somdej Phra Naresuan the Great.
His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously appointed Her Majesty Queen Sirikit as his representative in the gold pouring ceremony for the casting of the Phra Buddha Nawammaraja Yutchab Pariwatnamongkol Buddha image and Phra Kring Buddha image at the Ubosot of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram (Wat Phra Kaew). The ceremony was also held at the Ubosot of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram in the Grand Palace on Friday, January 2, 1998, at 6:19 PM. The ceremony was presided over by Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, who lit the victory candle, along with Somdet Phra Rajakhana and other guru monks from across the country.
Details of the ceremony
The first ceremony was held at the Ubosot of Wat Rakhang Khositaram on Friday, November 21, 1997, with great kindness from 9 monks from each province all over the country, totaling 684 monks.
Ceremony 2: Her Majesty the Queen presided over the pouring of gold and performed the Buddha Abhiseka ceremony at the Ubosot of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram on Friday, January 2, 1998. On this occasion, gold, niello, and silver sheets were presented to His Majesty the King, who prayed, anointed, and sprinkled them to be used in the casting and creation of Buddha images for this project.
The third ceremony was the Great Buddha Abhiseka and Chaimangkala Abhiseka ceremonies at the Ubosot of Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram in November 1998.
To allow the public to participate with the government in offering royal merit on the occasion, all proceeds were presented to His Majesty the King for charitable purposes at his pleasure. His Majesty graciously bestowed the name of this project as Phra Phuttha Nawammaharaja Yutchabpariwatnamongkol, referring to the Buddha image created on the auspicious occasion of the 60th birthday anniversary of His Majesty the King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, which was the 72nd birthday anniversary edition on December 5, 1999. Furthermore, His Majesty graciously bestowed Chitralada materials to create a set of 5 Buddha amulets: two Phra Somdej, two Phra Nang Phaya, and one Buddha image representing the day of birth.
