This commemorative coin was issued for the restoration of the pagoda at Wat Bowonniwet Vihara on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty King Rama IX’s 80th birthday anniversary on December 5, 2007.
The Supreme Patriarch presided over the Buddhist consecration and auspicious blessing ceremony at the main chapel of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara, Bangkok, on December 2, 2007.
The purposes of its creation were : 1. To serve as a sacred memento for the Thai people and Buddhists commemorating the ordination of the revered Thai monarch as a Buddhist monk. 2. To serve as a memorial and token of appreciation for those who donated to the restoration of the pagoda enshrining the Buddha’s relics, as a royal merit-making act in honor of His Majesty. On the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 80th birthday, 5 December 2007. 3. It is an auspicious object of worship and remembrance for the people. Buddhists will have a coin of His Majesty’s image as a souvenir on the auspicious occasion of His Majesty’s 80th birthday, 5 December 2007.
