It was created by the Ministry of Interior to celebrate the 50th anniversary of His Majesty the King’s accession to the throne in 1996.
Designed by the Fine Arts Department ,
the front features the royal portrait of His Majesty sitting on the Phuttal Kanchanasingha throne with the inscription “King Bhumibol Adulyadej.” The back features the Chakri emblem with the inscription “2539.”         This is a very popular coin with many experiences, such as in the Daily News where a man’s car overturned and was completely destroyed, and a Border Patrol Police officer on duty in the south was ambushed by terrorists but was unharmed due to wearing the “Sitting on the Throne” coin. This is because it was created with pure intentions and merit from excellent materials. The creation of the commemorative Sema coin for His Majesty the King’s 50th Anniversary of Accession to the Throne involved the use of metal from important ceremonies, such as those from the Phra Kring Damrong Rajanubhab amulet created for the 100th anniversary of the Ministry of Interior in 1990, and those from the Phra Nirokantrai amulet created by the Ministry of Interior and people nationwide to present to His Majesty the King on December 4, 1995. These amulets also included inscribed sacred tablets from guru monks from all regions of the country. His Holiness Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara, the Supreme Patriarch of Thailand, personally performed the meditation ceremony at the Ubosot of Wat Bowonniwet Vihara. The coin was specially priced to allow people of all walks of life to express their loyalty and honor His Majesty the King forever. All proceeds were donated to the Chaipattana Foundation.

The auspicious consecration ceremony was held at the Rangsi Temple (in Wat Bowonniwet Vihara) because there were so many coins that they could not be consecrated at the Rangsi Temple. They had to be brought to the Rangsi Temple to perform the ceremony. A ten-wheel truck was used to transport 5,000,000 coins to be placed at the basketball court at Wat Bowonniwet School. A sacred thread was then connected from the Rangsi Temple, which was nearby. The gold and silver coins were kept in the temple, along with a number of royal statues.
The auspicious consecration ceremony, presided over by His Holiness Somdej Phra Yansangwon, and the monks who attended the ceremony are as follows, as far as evidence is recorded.
1. Reverend Father Uttama, Wang Wiwekharam Temple
2. Reverend Father Lamyai, Wat Lad Ya
3. Luang Pho Pen, Bang Phra Temple
4. Luang Pho Dee, Phra Rup Temple
5. Luang Pho Hong, Phetchaburi Temple
6. Reverend Father Tab, Makham Riang Temple
7. Reverend Father Chaloem, Phrayathi Temple
