Front – The center of the coin features a portrait of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej in royal regalia and academic robes. Along the left rim of the coin is the inscription “Bhumibol Adulyadej” and on the right rim is the inscription “Rama IX”.
Back – The center of the coin features the royal seal of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Below is the price inscription. Near the top edge of the coin is the inscription “Maha Mongkol Chaiyapansa 60th Birthday”. Below is the inscription “5 December 1987, Thailand”. There is a floral pattern separating the text above and below.
