This beautiful silver coin is created to celebrate the 550th anniversary of Albrecht Dürer’s birth.
Albrecht Dürer was born in Nuremberg in 1471. He was the greatest artist of the German Renaissance. Dürer was unequalled in his artistic and technical execution of woodcuts and engravings who revolutionized the art of printmaking. One of his most famous works “Self-Portrait at Twenty-Eight” was created in 1500. It alludes to medieval representations of Jesus Christ. The man looks directly into the viewers’ eyes and raises his hands as if in the act of blessing. It is the only example of this type of portrait in the history of fine arts.
The coin has a proof quality and is partially coloured. Besides, it is decorated with an amber insert. The limited mintage equals symbolically 550 pieces worldwide.
