The U.S. Mint operates four active coin-producing facilities and one bullion depository.
Production mints
Philadelphia Mint (P mint mark): The oldest mint, established in 1792. It produces circulating coins, coin and medal dies, and collectible coins.
Denver Mint (D mint mark): Opened in 1906, it produces circulating and collectible coins, as well as its own coin dies. It also stores gold and silver.
San Francisco Mint (S mint mark): Originally opened in 1854 during the California Gold Rush, it now primarily produces proof and collectible coins.
West Point Mint (W mint mark): Designated as a branch mint in 1988, it produces investment-grade (bullion) coins and some commemorative and proof coins.
